Browse categories are "secondary index" or "sort key" properties of documents that help speed up document retrieval and help organize and categorize documents.
Usually a custom category structure is part of an original design and configuration of an archiving environment by a developer, integrator, or administrator.
A Category can contain up to ten different segments, the segmentation being what drives a drill-down selection process.
The number of category assignments on a single document is unlimited.
"Drill-down" refers to navigating from a broader or higher level category down to a lower or narrower level category with fewer documents resulting along the way.
The first segment of a library's category list is usually a description of the type of category.
The sample "demo_sales" library has the following top level category list when you choose category view:
If you click on the "Customer" link you drill down to the next segment, which is a customer name:
Choosing the customer "EverestIndustries" then takes you into a document list that has been narrowed down to just documents for that customer, as seen below.
At the top of the list above the headers the category drill-down list followed is displayed (see the yellow balloon).
You can click on a previous level in the drill-down list to move back up the chain.
Additional icons that are active while in category view:
The filter icon to the left of the drill-down list will return you to the top-level category list for the library.
This icon clears category view, resetting the list display back to a normal document list display.
